LAAS hosts three different types of star parties:
Public Star Parties
These are held on the lawn area in front of the Griffith Observatory main entrance. They generally happen on the Saturday nearest to the first quarter moon. A current schedule of the public star parties can be found on the Griffith Observatory web site.
Outreach Star Parties
These are held by arrangement at schools in the greater Los Angeles area. Teachers or administrators at schools contact the LAAS outreach coordinator to arrange the scheduling. These typically happen on a school day, starting a bit before dark and going into the early evening.
Dark Sky Star Parties
These take place at the LAAS facility in Lockwood Valley, on the weekend nearest to the new moon. They are not open to the general public.
